While today’s Chrysler brand only sells minivans (like the Chrysler Pacifica), the company has an extensive nameplate history, including the breakthrough Chrysler Airflow from the 1930s. Before merging into Stellantis (which also owns the brands Jeep, Dodge, and Ram), Chrysler offered a broad range of vehicles. We’ll examine several popular models to get a more complete picture of Chrysler ownership.
While Chrysler was once considered a luxury brand, it has fallen into the mainstream category in recent decades. This positioning translates into standard warranty offerings of three years or 36,000 miles for bumper-to-bumper protection, and five years or 60,000 miles for powertrain coverage. In the case of the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid (a plug-in hybrid), the traction battery is protected for eight years or 100,000 miles (or ten years or 150,000 miles, depending on the state).
A vehicle service contract or auto protection plan from Endurance Warranty can step in when Chrysler’s factory coverage has expired. Endurance also has optional hybrid coverage that protects the electric drive motor, power controller, and inverter assembly.
Although models like the Chrysler 200 and Chrysler 300 are no longer in production, an extended warranty can take the worry out of breakdowns and surprise repair bills. Even newer nameplates, such as the Chrysler Voyager, will need protection when the original warranty ends.
Compare Chrysler warranty options:
Overall, Chrysler has a mixed reputation for dependability. A recent Consumer Reports (CR) study ranks the brand last among 26 automakers reviewed for used car reliability. Looking at newer examples, the Chrysler Pacifica ranked last when CR compared five minivans from the 2025 model year. Separately, the entry-level Chrysler Voyager earned similar low reliability scores for the analyzed years (2020 and 2025).
Exploring the reliability of specific Chrysler models and years produces hit or miss results. J.D. Power shows that Chrysler 300s from 2007-2010 and 2017-2019 have “great” quality and reliability ratings. While the other years were considered “average” (or not rated). The smaller and shorter-lived Chrysler 200 doesn’t fare as well. Only the 2011 model year earned a great score, while the later models (2012-2016) were average or “fair” in quality and reliability.
Meanwhile, the PT Cruiser shared a similar story. Its debut year (2007) ranked great, while the subsequent years (2008-2010) never went above average. In addition, the Chrysler Aspen (the corporate cousin of the Dodge Durango) joined the automaker’s lineup only from 2007 through 2009 and never scored above average for quality and reliability.
The Town and Country was a mainstay at Chrysler dealerships from 2007 through 2016. However, J.D. Power only gave this model a great score for quality and reliability in its final year (2016). The previous years were average to fair.
Break down Chrysler’s reliability record:
Chrysler has average annual upkeep costs of $608, which is slightly less than its Stellantis sibling, Dodge ($634). Compared to mainstream Japanese brands, Chryslers cost more to keep on the road than Nissan ($500), Toyota ($441), and Honda ($428). In contrast, Ford ($775) and Chevrolet ($649) have higher yearly maintenance costs. Buick ($608) is identical to the Chrysler average.*
The numbers behind Chrysler’s average yearly maintenance bill show that the company’s newer minivans, the Pacifica ($483) and Voyager ($355), have lower service costs. The same can’t be said for the older Town and Country ($636). Below-average upkeep is also a characteristic of the Chrysler Aspen ($543), the automaker’s last SUV. The Chrysler Sebring ($428) and 200 ($549) also fall into this category. Owners of the 300 ($631) and PT Cruiser ($641) are likely to spend more than owners of other Chrysler models.*
Understand Chrysler ownership costs:
Transmission issues are at the top of the list for common Chrysler repairs. This problem is shared with other brands (Jeep, Dodge, and Ram) that used to fall under the Fiat-Chrysler domain.
It’s also not unusual to replace the backup warning sensors ($1,500-$1,700). Older Chryslers are prone to problems with the cylinder head ($2,400-$2,900) or the oil pump ($1,200-$1,500).*
